MEET THE COMMUNITY FROM THE YOUTH CENTER

My chosen family came together in a time of hardship for all of us. We were all a part of the LGBT center... Me, Jack, and Runyon all gravitated towards each other because we were all queer men from very different parts of the world, but we all knew what it was like to have our femininity and queerness invalidated and when we all came together and shared experiences, we shared a love for each other and a support for each other that I haven’t felt in a long time.

The importance of chosen families for queer communities is that a lot of people don’t have a sense of family considering some families are not as accepting… You want to have a sense of community when you’re around people in general. You want to feel safe and welcomed. I think everyone deserves to feel that way.
